Arrest of Nigerians in UAE: FG must urgently interface for citizens Amb Ode

Nigeria’s immediate past Ambassador to Singapore, Ogbole Amedu Ode has called on the Nigerian federal government and her embassy in the United Arab Emirates to urgently mediate with authorities there to secure the release of citizens detained in the emirates.
Ode, who is also a former spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spoke to Vanguard in Abuja explaining that in recent times, there is a reckoning within foreign policy experts that Nigeria is punching far below its weight.
It was gathered that on December 9, 2020, security operatives raided the homes of many African migrants, most of whom are Nigerians living in Al Qouz, Abu Hail, Sharjah, Al Barsha, Deira and other places.

A new project by the Nigerian artist Emeka Ogboh aims to remind the German public about its role in his native country’s missing heritage.
The work, which was unveiled on December 29, is comprised of a series of “missing” posters pasted throughout more than 200 locations in Dresden, which is home to five notable objects from the former royal palace in Benin.

It is just as these colourful pictures captured the vibrancy of the chieftaincy title-taking ceremony of Professor Kingsley Chiedu Ayodele Moghalu, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (2009-2014) and Presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) during the 2019 presidential elections. The event took place in his native Nnewi Community on Monday 28 December 2020.
Professor Moghalu was conferred with the traditional title of “Ifek’ego” – meaning “Greater than Money” – by the traditional ruler of the Ancient Kingdom of Nnewi, HRH Igwe Dr. Kenneth Orizu III at the Igwe’s 57th annual Ofala celebration. The remains of Nigeria’s immediate-past ambassador to the US Justice Sylvanus Nsofor have left the host country on his final journey back home.
His casket, draped in the Nigerian flag, departed the Dulles International Airport, Washington, on Wednesday morning aboard a Delta Airlines plane.
At the airport to bid him farewell were officials of the US Department of State, and Nigerian embassy officials led by the Charge D’Affaires Jane Adams-Abanulo.
A brief departure ceremony for the deceased included a guard of honour mounted by US military service members at the cargo section of the airport.
