The Manchester City Council reviewed bids last night for asbestos removal and demolition of 500 North Franklin.
Some groups had hoped to save the building and repurpose it, but City Manager Tim Vick says it would be difficult to renovate it to make it compliant.
The City Council approved the low bid for asbestos abatement to Advanced Environmental Testing & Abatement of Waterloo at a cost of over $18,000. They also approved the low bid for demolition to Lansing Brothers of Luxemburg for just under $26,000.
The Manchester City Council also approved the preliminary and final plat of the Kehrli Farmstead 5th Subdivision – a three lot subdivision. The land lies west of North 13th Street near Norby’s. The developer would like to build senior housing there.

County votes to oppose state civil rights bill Written by Geoffrey Plant on February 12, 2021
Grant County commissioners on Thursday weighed in on a controversial piece of legislation making its way through the Roundhouse in Santa Fe: the N.M. Civil Rights Act.
Over the course of a three-hour meeting, commissioners approved several resolutions authorizing Colonias infrastructure grant applications for a preliminary engineering report for Silver Acres and two road projects, one in Arenas Valley and the other in North Hurley.
They also approved an agreement that ensures the county’s continued participation in the DWI prevention program, as well as a services agreement with the Center for Health Innovation, which operates a career training program intended to motivate primary health care providers to practice in rural Grant County.
