New Zealand decision makers now have access to more
frequent unemployment statistics thanks to a new
tool.
The Unemployment Rate – Nowcast model, called
UR-NOW, predicts the unemployment rate each month, published
here, to supplement the official quarterly
figures.
AUT Professor Tim Maloney, also Chief
Economist at the Ministry for Social Development, and
Principal Advisor David Rea at the Ministry of Social
Development, made the tool and described its development in
a working
paper.
The official unemployment rate is based on
Stats NZ’s Household Labour Force Survey over a
three-month period, so there is a natural delay of up to

At a time when more Hoosiers are getting outside, the legislature has made even more budget cuts to Indiana’s underfunded and understaffed environmental agencies.
The funding for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources for the 2022 and 2023 fiscal years will be about 3 percent lower than the current budget. Even though the Indiana Department of Environmental Management received more money from the state s general fund, it will be operating with about 11 percent fewer dollars overall.
The Hoosier Environmental Council said budgets for state environmental agencies haven’t recovered since the 2008 recession making it difficult for them to retain employees and ultimately do their jobs.

Todd Patrick House passed away peacefully April 17, 2021, surrounded by his wife and children at his home in Dayton, Oregon. He was 56.
Born September 24, 1964, in McMinnville, Oregon, to parents Barry and Roberta House, Todd spent his childhood on their family farm in Dayton. He graduated from Dayton High School in 1983. In 1985, he married the love of his life, Stacy Hanes, and together they raised their two sons in McMinnville and on their family hazelnut farm in Dayton. Todd loved the outdoors and farming. His hobbies over the years included fishing, hunting, Chicago Bears football, spending time with the family dogs and traveling with his family to the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska and his most favorite destination, Hawaii.
