Coronavirus vaccinations: Winchester Cabs for Jabs a success

WINCHESTER S taxi drivers are doing exactly what they set out to do and more. As previously reported, the fundraising initiative Cabs for Jabs is taking elderly residents to and from their vaccination appointments for free. In less than two weeks the scheme has seen more than £8,000 raised and provided around 65 trips. But the volunteers have not stopped there. Leader Tim Perry said: We re also helping other towns and cities start their own #cabs4jabs fundraising efforts. So far we ve helped Tonbridge, Brighton and Southampton get started and are getting enquiries from many other towns. Across all the fundraising efforts we ve raised over £15k.

Breckenridge fine-tunes plastic bag ban, discusses materials for reusable bags

Photo by Liz Copan / Summit Daily archives Breckenridge Town Council decided Tuesday, Jan. 26, that compostable bags would not be exempt from the plastic bag ban that goes into effect in September and debated what type of reusable bag the town should distribute. Sustainability Coordinator Jessie Burley said a restaurant owner asked the town if compostable bags would be allowed once the ban takes effect. Burley said town staff does not recommend that council allow compostable bags to be exempt from the ban because of a lack of collection and compost abilities in Summit County.

Winchester Cabs for Jabs fundraiser to expand

THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for an free service to transport vulnerable people to and from their Covid jabs - and there are plans to bring the scheme to Southampton. The ‘Cabs for Jabs’ team have already raised just under £7,000 of their £20,000 target, which - if hit - would allow them to make 1,000 drop-offs for Winchester residents to local vaccination hubs with the support of taxi firm Francis Taxis. Head fundraiser Tim Perry, has said the response to the service - which started as an idea between friends - has been ‘phenomenal’ and outlined plans to expand the free-service into Southampton as the UK’s vaccination programme rolls on.
