Innovators at Purdue’s Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) have used their expertise to make the on-campus testing facility one of the only labs in Indiana actively looking for and able to detect the UK variant of the COVID-19 virus. This ability, combined with the university’s data-driven testing approach, has made it possible for cases to be caught, thereby stopping any potential spread among the campus community.
Equity Task Force update provided to Purdue Board of Trustees

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue trustees on Friday (Feb. 5) heard an update from Don Thompson, chair of the university s Equity Task Force, as trustees move to evaluate findings and consider implementation plans.
Mike Berghoff, chair of the board of trustees, said board members will now examine the findings of the task force then direct its recommendations be included in newly adopted universitywide strategic initiatives. Implementing this initiative will be the responsibility of senior members of the administration.
Thompson said recommendations based on the work of the task force focus on strategies and goals in three key areas: representation, experience and success for all Black Boilermakers, and those strategies and goals will be specifically identified for undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and staff.

Purdue University is walking back a policy that mandated members of a student choir group first complete a series of diversity, equity, and inclusion training sessions grounded in critical race theory.
The Purdue Musical Organizations, which oversees six choral ensembles and a handbell choir, announced late last month it would require members to enroll in six antiracist training modules, according to emails reviewed by the
Washington Free Beacon. The course curriculum includes modules on White Privilege, White Supremacy, and White Fragility, and White Saviorism and How To Be A Better Ally, as well as required readings from antiracist academics.

The West Lafayette Police Department is investigating the death of Katie Cruz, a Purdue University student who died earlier this week.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind (WLFI) - The West Lafayette Police Department (WLPD) is investigating the death of Purdue University student Katie Cruz, who passed away earlier this week.
According to Tim Doty of Purdue University, Cruz was a junior student studying Biochemistry.
WLPD Investigations Commander Lt. Jon Eager says he does not expect foul play in her death.
