Dear Abbey: NHL Community Asks Our Writer About the Playoffs, Kraken and More

0 of 7 Alex Brandon/Associated Press Welcome to the Bleacher Report NHL mailbag! It s the first of what I hope will be many. The Stanley Cup playoffs are in full swing, and there is a ton of hockey action yet to come this summer via the NHL Entry Draft and the expansion draft. It s an exciting time in the NHL, and we received a ton of questions on a wide array of topics. There is no shortage of opinions on the B/R app, so let s get to it and talk about the playoffs, the Seattle Kraken and rebuilds. Dear Abby gave advice, but this Abbey gives you hockey.

New York Rangers expensive statement galvanized support for George Parros

The New York Rangers’ pointed statement calling for the head of George Parros, the NHL s dean of discipline, may go down as the most expensive words typed in hockey history. The Rangers were fined $250,000 by the NHL on Thursday – or $2,212 for each of the 113 words, still nothing that billionaire owner James Dolan will lose sleep over. But it is among the heaviest fines in league history, considerably more than the $100,000 levied upon the San Jose Sharks in 2013, the last team to publicly disagree with a disciplinary decision. In the NHL’s view, it was one thing for the Rangers to disagree with Parros’ decision to fine but not suspend Tom Wilson for Monday’s melee at Madison Square Garden, but another to call it a “dereliction of duty” and claim that Parros is “unfit to continue in his current role.”

Off The Wire – April 22

Last Updated: Apr 23, 2021 10:43 AM ” Off the Wire ” proudly sponsored by Pete’s Auto Body Referee Tim Peel was released by the National Hockey League, not so much for making a ” make-up call ” or a ” game management call “, but rather for inadvertently having his intention boomed out on the in-house microphone. As I said at the time, the ” even-up ” call is as much a part of hockey officiating as the whistle. And then I got thinking about ” game management ” calls and was reminded that on their path to the 2011 Ontario Hockey League Championship, the Owen Sound Attack benefited twice. First on Saturday April 23rd in Game 3 of the Western Final against Windsor. With the series tied at 1 win apiece and the Spitfires leading 4-3 with 5 minutes to go at the Bayshore, Windsor’s Jake Carrick punched Jesse Blacker.
