Tim Colliver | The Times-Gazette World War II veteran and new Hillsboro resident Rudolph “Roy” Huereque celebrated his 95th birthday Friday, April 16, and though he can easily recall facing off against Hitler’s and Mussolini’s troops in Europe, his fondest memories these days were being able to be a part of the observance of the 75th anniversary of D-Day in June 2019. “I was sitting right behind President Trump when he was speaking,” Huereque remembered, “and when he got through speaking, he turned around and started shaking everyone’s hand, so I stuck my hand right out and shook hands with the president.”

Facebook screenshot by Tim Colliver | The Times-Gazette One of the two women involved in the September 2020 escape attempt by Nickolaus Garrison, 34, Hillsboro, received a three-year community control sentence Monday by visiting Judge Daniel Hogan in Highland County Common Pleas Court. The 18-month prison sentence that Alicia M. Ralston, 32, Chillicothe, could have received on the complicity to escape conviction was suspended by Hogan, with instructions in the courts conditions of supervision ordering that she continue in her efforts to obtain her GED, and successfully complete substance abuse disorder treatment through the Georgia Harris house and all recommended aftercare.
