A man has been charged in connection with a stabbing incident in Newbridge yesterday and was remanded in custody.
Danut Scurtu, 35, whose address was given as Rosebud Cottage, Old Connell, Newbridge, appeared before a special sitting of Naas District Court tonight on allegations of assault causing harm on Jan Prochazka and possession of a knife at Patrick Street, Newbridge, on April 7.
The court was told by Det Gda Paddy Regan the victim’s heart was lanced in the incident and he went into cardiac arrest twice on the way to hospital. He added that when the defendant’s condition stabilised he underwent surgery at St James’s Hospital, Dublin, where he is in intensive care.
Prosperous man receives custody term for drug possession

A man found in possession of drugs was given a nine months custody term by Judge Desmond Zaidan at Naas District Court on March 3.
Davin Casey, 28, whose address was given as 20 Anne Street, Prosperous, was prosecuted for possessing €1410 worth of cannabis at 84 Anne Street, Prosperous, on June 27, 2018.
He was also prosecuted on other allegations - a breach of the Public Order Act on April 20, 2019 at Anne Street; theft of grocery items from the Londis store in Prosperous on December 28, 2019 and possession of a drug for personal use on September 13, 2018 at Anne Street.
Man allegedly assaulted with hurley in Kildare

A man was allegedly assaulted with a hurley, Naas District Court heard on March 3.
Stephen Hannon, 33, whose address was given as 12 Anne Street, Prosperous, faces an allegation of assault at Brookes Mill, Prosperous, on March 2.
Garda Moloney told the court that when the gardai arrived at the scene an assault had taken place and the suspect had blood on his pants.
The injured party had been taken to hospital.
Sgt Jim Kelly claimed that the defendant and injured party are known to each other.
Solicitor Tim Kennelly said the defendant disputes the evidence.

Gardaí believe an arrested man was on his way to a protest in Cork today.
Ian Fitzpatrick, 44, whose address was given as 40 Collins Drive, Finglas, Dublin 11 and Sylvia Smith, 44, whose address was given as 22 The Grove, Melrose, Swords, Dublin, were travelling in the same vehicle. they were arrested by gardaí and appeared before a special Naas District Court sitting this evening.
Gda John David Lynch gave evidence of arresting Mr Fitzpatrick at the Curragh at 11.33am.
He said that when stopped earlier the defendant turned back but then left the motorway and took an alternative southwards route.
