Until a few years ago, you couldn’t walk into a Giant Eagle to get any alcohol. Now most locations sell some beer or wine, but when the liquor stores closed during the pandemic, business took a hit.
“For us being right here on the border of West Virginia and Ohio we saw plenty of our residents cross the border to buy liquor during the pandemic,” O’Neal said.

Walk-ins will be welcome at a Washington County vaccination clinic on Thursday and Friday, state and local officials have announced, in the latest attempt to entice as many Pennsylvanians as possible to get the covid-19 vaccine and inch society toward herd immunity.
“We need to make sure the demand stays there,” said Gov. Tom Wolf, noting that about half of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of the vaccine. “We need to keep moving through that.”

Pennsylvania is moving closer to a milestone in the COVID-19 vaccination effort, as nearly half of those eligible have received at least one shot.
So far, 48.1% of eligible Pennsylvanians have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, the Pennsylvania Department of Health said Wednesday. Pennsylvania ranks 10th among all states in the nation in terms of first doses, according to The New York Times’ daily tracker.
Nearly 3.3 million Pennsylvania residents are fully vaccinated, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. More than 1.9 million people have received their first dose of a two-shot COVID-19 vaccine, the department said Wednesday. The state data doesn’t include Philadelphia, which is handling its own vaccine rollout.
