Australia could grow to become a global renewable energy giant, producing as much as ten times more electricity than is currently consumed, all from renewable sources, according to the CEO of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.
In 2019, Miller told RenewEconomy’s Energy Insiders podcast that Australia could aim to produce much more electricity from renewable energy sources than is currently consumed in total in Australia – as much as 700 per cent renewable electricity, with the excess used to produce zero emissions fuels.
In a more recent speech to Australian Energy Week, and a subsequent post to LinkedIn, Miller upped the ante, saying Australia could be producing as much as ten times more renewable energy that is needed to meet local demand.

Minnesota regulators reiterated their plans to strip leases from Mesabi Metallics, the proposed iron ore mine and half-built processing plant in Nashwauk, calling the company s lender not credible and discrediting its excuse for not putting up enough cash on time.
In a letter to the company Wednesday, DNR Assistant Commissioner Jess Richards said the company s claim that its funder Mumbai, India-based Essar could only provide $100 million half the required amount in immediately available funds by a May 1 deadline because of the COVID-19 crisis in India was a deliberate choice and not bad fortune.

There is a lot of interest in the partially built mine site near Nashwauk. Thursday afternoon, U.S. Steel expressed its interest.
Mesabi Metallics is trying to finish the mine, but the DNR has started the process of terminating mineral leases with them.
Cleveland-Cliffs also has mineral rights in the area, and wants the ore to help extend the life of mine at Hibbing Taconite.
U.S. Steel says the company is gathering additional information on the site and exploring options.
