Napier s War Memorial is unlikely to be fully back in place by Anzac Day but it will be by the end of the year.
That s the promise from Mayor Kirsten Wise, 15 months into the job and determined to see a debate which has waged for almost five years does not continue into a sixth.

Scooter enthusiasts are descending on Hawke s Bay for the sport s biggest event in Hawke s Bay on Saturday.
The Australasian Scooter Association New Zealand Nationals will be held at Napier s Bay Skate on Marine Parade. More than 100 riders and 800 spectators are expected.
Bay Skate manager Justin Dwyer said a lot of money would be up for grabs. This is a professional sport, he said.

Businesses and users of Napier s Marewa Village Shopping Centre want tougher council action and policing to end street-begging issues which escalated this week with an assault on a shopkeeper. But it wasn t the first, said the owner of the Marewa Four Square, who was punched as he rang for police on Tuesday afternoon to report harassment of users of an ATM outside his shop.
The retailer, who has been in the area about 10 years and who still had bruises around the shoulder and neck where he was hit, said it d been really bad in the last couple of years.
