Two people are in hospital after yet another crash on a 3km stretch of Napier gateway highway which has claimed five lives in two and a half years.
The crash on State Highway 51 (formerly State Highway 2) was reported at 10.10pm on Sunday, and happened about 1.7km south of the highway s intersection with Ellison St at the southern entrance to Napier s Marine Parade.

Emergency services were called to the crash on SH51, near Awatoto, about 10.10pm on Sunday.
Police said one of the vehicles rolled and three people suffered differing levels of injuries.

St John Ambulance said two patients in a serious condition were transported to Hawke s Bay Hospital.
Police said a stretch of the beachfront highway was closed after the three-vehicle crash, but was cleared and reopened by midnight.
The crash occurred about 1.7km south of SH51 s intersection with Ellison St at the southern entrance to Napier s Marine Parade.

Work has started on the Kuripapango Bridge, with stock trucks and pregnancies just some of the many issues facing Rangitīkei residents because of its partial closure. A lot of produce goes over that road, a lot of fertiliser comes from Napier across into Rangitīkei, a lot of wool, red meat and forestry can come back this way, said Hastings Deputy Mayor Tania Kerr.
