Panchayat vice-president, brother held for murder

Updated: Share Article AAA The Periyanaickenpalayam police on Saturday arrested vice-president of Vellamadai gram panchayat and his brother in connection with the murder of a man who worked at the chicken stall run by the former. The police said that R. Ganesan (42), vice-president of Vellamadai panchayat and a resident of Andal Nagar at Samanaickenpalayam, and his brother R. Muruganandam (33) from Vaiyampalayam, an advocate practising in Coimbatore, were arrested late on Saturday. According to the police, P. Sureshkumar (25) of Netaji Nagar near Samanaikenpalayam worked at the chicken stall run by Ganesan, who belongs to DMK. “Sureshkumar often gave information to Ganesan’s wife Thulasimani (38) about Ganesan’s activities. This led to quarrels between the husband and wife and Thulasimani left for her paternal house recently”, said the police.

The injured, Thulasimani, 38, and her father Nagaraj, 62, from Periyamathampalayam near Periyanaickenpalayam, were admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and their health condition is critical, a police officer said. Police said the deceased, P Sureshkumar, of Netaji Nagar at Samanaickenpalayam near Periyanaickenpalayam, was working in a chicken shop owned by Thulasimani’s husband Ganeshan, 42, from Samanaickenpalayam. Ganeshan, a DMK member and vice-president of Vellamadai village panchayat, fired Sureshkumar after he discovered that the latter was passing on information about his whereabouts to his wife. Ganeshan used to consume liquor with his friends, which his wife disliked and often picked up fight with him over it.

3,800kg of ration rice seized | Coimbatore News

COIMBATORE: The Ramanathapuram police on Tuesday night seized 3,800kg ration rice from a warehouse, which was to be smuggled to Kerala. Police had raided the warehouse on Nethaji Nagar at Ramanathapuram after receiving a tip-off. “We found 76 sacks of ration rice and detained Sahul Hameed. Inquiry revealed that Hameed, along with Jafer, was planning to smuggle the rice to Kerala,” a police officer said. The accused and the seized rice were handed over to the food cell police. Ten days ago, flying squad of the civil supplies and consumer protection department, food cell police and forest department had arrested three people for attempting to smuggle 500kg ration rice from the district to Kerala near Anaikatti check post.
