A medical shop in Udhagamandalam was sealed on Friday as one of the employees tested positive for COVID-19.
With the new set of COVID-19 restrictions coming into force, officials continue to impose fine on violators for the second consecutive day.
In the Nilgiris, the district administration sealed three shops, including a medical store, on Friday. According to officials, two of the shops were sealed for failing to enforce physical distancing norms and control the number of people entering the shops. The medical store was sealed as one of the employees tested positive for COVID-19, and the other workers did not get tested.

The usually busy streets in Salem an Namakkal looked deserted and vehicle movement was minimal after noon, with the new set of COVID-19 restrictions coming into force.
As part of the restrictions only shops selling essential items were allowed to open for business and hotels restricted their service to takeaways. Though the government had permitted the operating of grocery stores till noon, many remained closed since morning as the business period was restricted to a few hours.

With complete lockdown to be enforced on Sunday, people thronged vegetable and fruit markets and meat shops in large numbers on Saturday.
Since the lockdown will begin at 10 p.m. on Saturday and end at 4 a.m. on Monday, vegetable and fruit markets, groceries, departmental stores, and provisional stores were busy throughout the day.
Traders at the Nethaji Daily Vegetable and Fruit Market said business was 25 to 30% higher than the usual. Temporary shops along roadside selling vegetables and fruits also made brisk business in the evening hours.

Imposing fine on public and sealing of shops for non-adherence to COVID-19 norms and strict monitoring by officials in market areas marked the first day of reintroduction of restrictions in the district here on Saturday.
District Collector C. Kathiravan inspected the Periya Mariamman Temple on Meenatchi Sundaranar Road, bus stand, shops at Veerapampalayam Pirivu, Villarasampatti Bus stop, market, shops at the bus stand in Gobichettipalayam and a few other places during which he found many shops failing to adhere to the norms. As many as 12 shops were sealed and a fine of ₹ 5,000 each was levied on the owners. Seventy persons were fined ₹ 200 each for

Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan said that all the fish markets in the corporation limits will remain closed on Sundays while meat will be sold to the customers only in packets.
Chairing a meeting with traders, fruit merchants, owners of meat stalls and representatives from textile markets and associations, he stressed on the need to adhere to COVID-19 norms as laid down by the State government. He said that wearing mask, placing hand sanitisers and ensuring personal distancing should be ensured failing which action will be initiated.
