SMC Speech & Debate Team Wraps up Successful Fall Season

The Santa Monica College (SMC) student Speech and Debate Team has wrapped up a successful fall season, having competed in four online tournaments during the Fall 2020 semester. Due to COVID-19, the team’s participation was limited to virtual platforms where they still excelled.
Here is a quick look at the Fall 2020 season in numbers, the team’s wins and other accomplishments:
Participated in four online tournaments: The Warm Up held Oct. 3, hosted by the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association (PSCFA); Crossman Invitational held Oct. 18, hosted by El Camino College; October Surprise, held Oct. 25 at Mt. San Antonio College; and Fall Champs on Dec. 5-6, hosted by PSCFA (Forty-two colleges and universities competed at the PSCFA Fall Champs from across the nation including CSU Northridge, UC Berkeley, and University of Utah).

It’s the final Nightcap of the year and to round-off 2020 we’ve put together one last batch of bonkers boozy news, a fitting tribute to the year that was.
There’s just one week until Christmas and only two weeks left in the whole year. How, exactly, has that happened? This truly has been the strangest, suckiest and most surreal collection of 12 months most of us have ever experienced. The good news is that this decade can only get better. Right? Well, we can confirm that The Nightcap will return in 2021, so that’s at least one positive thing in the bag already. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. 2020 still has some time on the clock and it’s chosen to spend some of its last moments making the world of booze a whole fresh batch of news to report on.
A major snowstorm rolled into the Northeast on Wednesday, bringing heavy snow to parts of southeastern Pennsylvania and a wintry mix and rain the closer you traveled to the shore.
As the snow tapered off, crews fired up the snowplows and began the back-breaking chore of shoveling the heavy precipitation. It s been a while since there s been a cleanup like this.
Mayor Eddie Moran pleaded with residents to keep an eye on neighbors and help those who can t dig out. During this snowstorm, I am gonna ask once again to be good neighbors to everyone. Check on the elderly, he said.
