Of the more than two dozen candidates who wanted to replace Andrew Caudill for a spot Washoe County School Board, there are now six finalists.
They include a former school police officer, a management analyst and a gaming executive.
The school board heard from the candidates Tuesday during a meeting. A decision could come as early as July 13 after another round of interviews. It s possible that the decision could take longer, too.
John Gwaltney I have worked for a number of boards and I have served on a number of boards, said Gwaltney, who is the former President of Truckee Meadows Community College and served on the Nevada State Board of Education. He advocated in his presentation to the board for students who are not on a traditional four-year college path.

As of 9:20 p.m. Friday, the Prison Hill fire is 15 percent contained according to Carson City Fire officials. The fire is estimated at 200 acres. Firefighters are expected to be on scene overnight, officials said on Twiitter. Please stay out of the area where firefighters are working.
Fairview Drive will continue to be closed, Carson River Road and Fairview are open to nearby residents.

7:35 p.m. update:
As of 7:35 p.m. the fire was 20% contained. Fire officials said most of the fireâs growth was to the east side of the hill. Air support and ground crews have been battling the fire.
