Leaving Team Blue for Team Red
Another Democratic politician has left the Democratic Party and joined the Republican Party. Although this doesn’t happen often, it seems to happen more often than a Republican politician leaving the Republican Party and joining the Democratic Party.
John Lee, the mayor of North Las Vegas since 2013, was last elected to office as a Democrat in 2017. On April 6
th of this year, he tweeted:
Card-carrying socialists have completely hijacked the Democratic Party here in Nevada. Today on @foxandfriends I announced my decision to switch to the Republican Party – the party of freedom, opportunity, and hope. Join me!
The leftist Democratic Socialists of America was tiny before the 2016 election. Now, with 90,000 dues-paying members and four seats in Congress, the DSA is upending Democratic politics nationwide.

(THE CONVERSATION) The leftist Democratic Socialists of America, which helped congressional star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez get elected in 2018, looks to be a big political player again in New York City’s 2021 municipal elections.
The group has not yet endorsed anyone for mayor – the top prize in New York’s June 22 Democratic primaries. But all 51 city council seats are up for grabs this year, and the DSA has members running for six of them – including Queens public defender Tiffany Cabán and Brooklyn tenant activist Michael Hollingsworth.
Exclusive – North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee: Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak Fails to Fight Biden’s Punishing Tax Increases

President Biden’s unhinged tax plan would crush Nevada’s economic recovery, and it is shameful that Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) refuses to take a stand and fight this absolutely unsustainable and harmful liberal policy proposal.
How much more can Nevadans take? Gov. Sisolak’s mismanagement of our economy has given Nevada the second highest unemployment rate in America, prices for gas and groceries are skyrocketing, our precious tourism industry is still suffering –
and now Joe Biden wants to crush our working families with punishing tax increases.
Like President Ronald Reagan and President Donald Trump, I’ve seen firsthand how the Democrat Party has changed radically, and not for the better,” says North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee. A Nevada mayor is leaving the Democrat Party and becoming Republican, saying his prior party has “embraced a socialist, extremist agenda.”
“Like so many other Nevadans, I registered with the Democratic Party because Democrats seemed to be the party of the working class,” John Lee, mayor of North Las Vegas, writes on his website. “As a dishwasher who joined the Culinary Union, that’s what was and still is important to me.”
