After conceding its fourth shutout loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, Syracuse (18-16, 11-13 Atlantic Coast) earned its third shutout win on Sunday after narrowly beating Virginia (15-29, 10-23) 1-0.
Alexa Romero won her second game of the series after pitching her second consecutive complete game. Romero allowed just one hit on Sunday, just short of the fourth no-hitter and second perfect game of her career. Her last no-hitter was also at Virginia, where she pitched five innings, struck out nine batters,and walked just two. Sunday marked Romero’s sixth complete game win of the season.

The final pitch of the day was inside on Toni Martin’s hands. She fought it off, and could only muster a soft popout to Florida State second baseman Devyn Flaherty. It was the last out of a sweep at the hands of the No. 9 Seminoles, who outscored Syracuse 16-3 over two games on Saturday. FSU (29-6, 16-2 Atlantic Coast) took the first game at Skytop Stadium, 7-3, behind six home runs, and capped off the afternoon with a 9-0 win. The Orange (15-13, 8-10) registered just two hits in the second game, and have scored just seven runs over their past four games all losses.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The No. 9 Florida State softball team (29-6, 17-2 ACC) swept Syracuse (15-13, 8-10) in a doubleheader Saturday. The Seminoles earned a 7-3 win in game one and a 9-0 run-rule victory in game two.
In game one, the Seminoles tied the program’s single-game record with six home runs. The homers were hit by five different players and equaled a mark established May 18, 2019, against South Florida.

The Seminoles used a program-record-tying six home runs hit by five different players to score their seven runs in game one. Devyn Flaherty led the way with two home runs and three RBI, while Anna Shelnutt, Cassidy Davis, Josie Muffley and Kiersten Landers all added solo home runs. Landers also stole two bases during game one.
April 18, 2021 No. 9 FSU Completes Another Four-Game Sweep
SYRACUSE, N.Y. The No. 9 Florida State softball team (31-6, 19-2 ACC) completed a four-game weekend sweep of Syracuse (15-15, 8-13) by taking both games of a Sunday doubleheader. The Seminoles earned a 3-2 extra-inning win in game one and a 13-1 run-rule victory in game two.
In the first inning of game two, Sydney Sherrill tied the ACC career record with her 58th double. The redshirt junior from Moore, Oklahoma, broke the FSU record on Feb. 27 and currently ranks fifth nationally among all active players.
FSU hit six more home runs on Sunday and smashed 13 total home runs during the four-game series.
