Brendan Curry dodged from X, and as he did most of the night, created separation. He then found Stephen Rehfuss open on the crease, who slammed home his third goal of the game.
The goal, and the way it was created, was indicative of the dominant performance No. 12 Syracuse delivered one that should hopefully quell the doubts of the Orange faithful, at least for a week.
A week after a disappointing season-opening home loss to Army, Syracuse (1-1) returned to the Carrier Dome and found their rhythm in a 20-10 win over No. 3 Virginia (3-1). “THAT is Syracuse lacrosse,” the team’s twitter account proclaimed after the victory.

The Orange, who were ranked No. 2 in the preseason and were undefeated in 2020, will try to prove that their 18-11 loss to Army last weekend was an aberration more than the norm. As will be the case most of this season, Syracuse will have the chance to rocket up the rankings given the strength and high rankings of its ACC foes.
A silver lining of the various schedule format changes in 2021 is that each ACC team will play two of their conference opponents twice. Syracuse, for example, has two games against both Virginia and Notre Dame. The upshot of the expanded conference matchups is a lot of great lacrosse.

The schedule below seems almost too good to be true. Six top-20 matchups. The return of Big Ten play, where rivals will become even more familiar with one another because of the conference-only schedule format. The first games at Homewood Field and the Carrier Dome since last March.

In case you forgot, Virginia is still the reigning national champion.
The Cavaliers reminded everyone that they are a Memorial Day Weekend contender again during their first game in 355 days a 20-11 win over Towson at Klöckner Stadium last Saturday. Perhaps even more impressive was the fact the scoring ledger didn’t include Matt Moore, Ian Laviano or Dox Aitken. The senior trio (Aitken is a fifth year) have combined for 304 goals at Virginia.
