Down manager Paddy Tally says he wishes he had never taken the coaching session in Abbey CBS last January that was deemed in breach of the GAA’s Covid-19 rules.
Tally received an eight week suspension from the GAA for organisining the session and talking to Brian Carthy on his latest Podcast, the Mourne manager says it was an ‘error of judgement’.
“It was an error of judgement on my behalf and I do regret taking the players out for that session,” explained Tally who said it was definitely unusual to see the PSNI arrive half way through. “It was strange, they don’t normally come to watch training sessions.”

Dublin have won the All-Ireland for the last six years
Eight-time All-Ireland winner Pat Spillane says he was shocked and angry when he heard that Dublin had broken the GAA s own regulations on training during the Covid-19 restrictions.
The breach means that manager Dessie Farrell will be suspended for 12 weeks thus missing the entirety of their Allianz League campaign.
It follows a similar length of punishment for Cork manager Ronan McCarthy, an eight-week ban for Down s Paddy Tally, while Monaghan manager Séamus McEnaney could miss the first round of the Ulster SFC when he is handed down an expected 12-week suspension.

GAA president Larry McCarthy says the association s reputation has been damaged by a series of high-profile breaches of the ban on inter-county training.
They re investigating a training session conducted by the Monaghan footballers last month, for which the Farney county have banned manager Seamus McEnaney for 12-weeks.
Dessie Farrell was handed a similar suspension by Dublin GAA for a session held at Inisfails GAA club last week. Cork football manager Ronan McCarthy and Down s Paddy Tally have also fallen foul of the COVID-19 regulations. I think it s done us reputational (sic) damage, which we re going to have to work to get back, McCarthy said after confirming the GAA s fixtures plan for 2021.
