“Lacking, insulting, and derogatory.”
These were the words used by opposition coalition 1Sambayan on Thursday, July 8, in describing the speech by President Duterte during the summit marking the centenary anniversary of China’s ruling party, the Communist Party of China (CPC).

In a statement, the pro-democracy group said the online portal for the public to vote for their preferred opposition bets will no longer push through after the hacking incident last month.
1Sambayan is supposed to open an online voting portal this July, but the coalition’s mobile campaign application, 1Sama Ako, was hacked on June 12, the same day when it released the list of names for president and vice president.
This data breach paved the way for the group to prioritize the “protection of the public” in the voting process.
“Personal information like email address and/or mobile phone number – were required to prevent multiple voting. But some forces that do not share 1Sambayan’s vision for good governance, will attempt to thwart every move,” 1Sambayan said.

After years of a deadly counternarcotics campaign that has riven the Philippines, the International Criminal Court is a step closer to opening what international law experts say would be its first case bringing crimes against humanity charges in the context of a drug war.
On June 14, the last day of her nine-year term as the ICC’s chief prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda announced there was “a reasonable basis to believe that the crime against humanity of murder” had been committed in the war on drugs carried out under the government of President Rodrigo Duterte. Bensouda urged the court to open a full-scale investigation into the bloody crackdown between July 1, 2016, when Duterte took office, and March 16, 2019, when the Philippines’ withdrawal from the ICC took effect.
