Creating the All-Time Super Bowl Broadcast
Feb 2, 2021, 11:34 AM EST
Networks want nothing more than to have a Super Bowl. Broadcasters want nothing more than to be given the opportunity to see their names on the call sheet. The NFL s crown jewel is also the crown jewel of pop culture, a remaining visage of shared experience. As such, the presentation is studied and considered from more angles than usual, as the world gazes upon the biggest stage.
With that in mind, we got to thinking about who our preferred guides have been for this experience through the years. Who has made the Super Bowl an even more memorable experience compared to their peers? Who has excelled at their given role?
Where were you when the Butler (Malcolm) did it? It was on this date (February 1st) six years ago that the New England Patriots rookie defensive back ended Super Bowl 49 with a stunning interception that still has Seahawks fans scratching their heads six years later.
WHY DIDN T YOU HAND THE BALL OFF TO BEAST MODE ?!?!
That was the cry around much of the Pacific Northwest six years ago today (February 1st, 2015) when, what looked to be, a sure-fire Seahawks Super Bowl victory was suddenly, inexplicably, taken away from them when quarterback Russell Wilson threw a goal line pick-off with :20 seconds to play. Of course, that was, most likely, preceded by a collective, WHAT?!?! NO WAY?!?!
No. 9 leads the Bengals numbers game.
With the Bengals trying to stack multiple blue-chip draft classes around quarterback Joe Burrow after selecting their most productive rookie class of the century last season, the stats suggest their young players are on a par with past stars in the Paul Brown Stadium era and beyond.
It s not all that difficult to find historical companions, although it is nice if they did play in the same century. So current slot receiver Tyler Boyd is an eerie matchup with T.J. Houshmandzadeh after their first 71 NFL games and two-time 1,000-yard rusher Joe Mixon s first 50 games are in the hunt with the first 50 Bengals games of Rudi Johnson and Cedric Benson.

The latest update in the Deshaun Watson saga won t please San Francisco 49ers fans hoping that their team somehow finds a way to acquire the talented Houston Texans quarterback. But it is good news for fans who wish former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh well in his new role as head coach of the New York Jets . and good news for Jets fans, of course.
A report from Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald states that Watson has informed people that his top preference as a destination is the Jets (h/t to Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports). Watson reportedly suggested that his current team, the Texans, interview Saleh before New York agreed to terms with the coach. Like others, that suggestion was ignored by the Texans, which is just part of the reason for the quarterback s frustration.
