Lockdown norms relaxed, so traffic police begin physical verification again
With the covid-induced lockdown imposed across the City and the
State, the traffic police had stopped physical verification of commuters who flouted traffic rules. However, the norms have been relaxed now and the cops are back on the streets to flag down traffic offenders.
A police official said, “During the peak covid season, we were told to stay away from physical verification. The cases were rising and it was risky to stop vehicles and physically check every offender. On the other hand, the vehicular density was also lower due to lockdown. However, with most of the guidelines being relaxed, the traffic is back on the City roads, and this is the time, we need to keep a regular check on traffic offences and randomly check vehicle users for relevant documents.”
