ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Most St. Johns County high schools will hold outdoor high school graduation ceremonies at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, the district announced Tuesday.
The ceremonies at the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium will begin June 1 with St. Augustine High School at 7 p.m. and other schools will follow. Each student will get 10 tickets for guests and there will be pandemic protocols in place.
St. Johns Virtual School and St. Johns Technical High School will have their ceremonies at First Coast Technical School on May 27 and May 28, respectively.
St. Johns County reported its first death from COVID-19 in March 2020, a 52-year-old man.
Now, a year later, the pandemic has led to more than 20,000 reported COVID-19 cases in the county, including non-residents, and has had widespread effects in the community beyond illness and death. People lost their jobs. Businesses shut down. Elderly residents became even more isolated. Families had to grapple with new dynamics.
But some people didn t make it home, and many St. Johns County residents are mourning the loss of their loved ones.

Pedro Menendez High School officials put the students and staff on a lockdown at around 11:15 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of a student with a gun. We received a report from a parent that there was a firearm missing from the home and thought that his child may have the firearm, Principal Clay Carmichael wrote in a email to parents. Out of an abundance of caution we placed the school on a brief lockdown while we located the student.
School officials worked with St. Johns County sheriff s deputies to interview the student and determined the student did not have a firearm in their possession.
Police lifted the soft lockdown on Nease High School at around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
St. Johns County Sheriff s Office deputies were called to the school shortly before noon to investigate a threat written on a bathroom wall. Students and staff were confined to classrooms as deputies searched the school building.
Nease High School, located at 10660 Ray Road in Ponte Vedra Beach, has approximately 3,100 students.
According to Sheriff s Office Spokesman Chuck Mulligan, deputies found the threat to be unsubstantiated at this time.
