Sullivan s Travels: Happy anniversary, Sassamon Trace
Wicked Local
I recently came across a Facebook post from the town of Natick regarding Sassamon Trace golf course off Route 27, and was nearly taken aback when I saw the date it opened – 2001.
Has it been 20 years already?
This piece of Dowse Orchards, combined with a piece of the old Natick landfill (OK, OK – dump), has become a really nice 9-hole course enjoyed by hundreds of golfers over the years. In addition to leagues, the course is home to the Natick High and Dover-Sherborn High golf teams.

Sullivan s Travels: What s coming for February
msullivan@wickedlocal.com
Here are some events coming up in February.
… The Natick Community Organic Farm will soon begin maple sugaring, and with that, maple sugaring tours from mid-February to early March. For information, including tour dates and (yes) coronavirus information, visit https://www.natickfarm.org/maple sugaring/
Not into maple sugaring? The farm is open daily from 9 a.m. until dusk. Say hi to the animals, and purchase a variety of items (including meats, maple syrup, veggies and yarn) from the market stand. Social distancing and masks required.
Signup for spring programs will open on Jan. 31. Visit natickfarm.org for details.

The holiday honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has taken on a new significance, given the recent events in our nation’s capital.
Natick will mark Jan. 18 with its 16th annual celebration to honor King’s life and legacy. There will be a live pre-recorded program from 10-11 a.m., streamed online and via Natick Pegasus. The program will feature student performances and reflections; MLK Day Creative Contest winners from the middle and high schools; interfaith clergy representatives; and special guests.
The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Gregory Groover, pastor of the Historic Charles Street AME Church in Roxbury.
Sullivan s Travels: Relay for Life scheduled for May 15
One day, we will gather in groups and laugh and cry and be together.
One day…
Well, how about May 15?
That’s when the Relay for Life of Natick, Framingham, Sherborn, Ashland and Holliston will (hopefully) convene at Natick High’s Memorial Field.
Last year’s physical Relay was canceled because of the pandemic; most of the fundraising went virtual.
Should the Relay proceed as planned, there will be a day of games, activities and fun, all to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
This will be the first Relay without organizer Edna Glass, who passed last fall. In her honor, one of the teams has been named “The Unbeatable Edna Glass Team.”
