For our January book club we will be reading Latinx Art by Arlene Dávila, which draws on Dávila’s numerous interviews with artists, dealers, and curators to explore the problem of visualizing Latinx art and artists. Providing an inside and critical look at the global contemporary art market, Dávila’s book is at once an introduction to contemporary Latinx art and a call to decolonize the art world and practices that erase and whitewash Latinx artists.
Our conversation will be led by Fabiola R. Delgado, a Venezuelan Human Rights Lawyer turned independent curator, creative consultant, and programs specialist at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. As an Amnesty International Regional Manager in Venezuela, her activism proved too dangerous, forcing her to move to the United States where she currently seeks political asylum, and dedicates herself to finding justice through artistic and cultural expressions.
