Mary Oliver was a Pulitzer Prize–winning poet whose work on nature and the everyday has impacted basically everyone who has ever read her work. Some have described her as writing in the tradition of the Romantic poets, such as Keats or Wordsworth, while others link her to American naturalism, like Thoreau. I find that she’s too unpretentious to be qualified into the former, and the latter doesn’t do her work justice either.
Most of her work was written about the sights and animals surrounding her home in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where she lived with her long-term partner, photography Molly Malone Cook (who died in 2005). Some of her later work was written in Hobe Sound, Florida. The geography is important, as Oliver wrote primarily about the sights and sounds of whatever was in her backyard, or in the nearby parks.

The popular online payment system has been positioning itself as a fast and easy way to transfer money since its inception. However, by making it simultaneously quick and seemingly facile to move cash around, Venmo has also made it easier for scammers and hackers to steal from Venmo’s customers. And they can probably be doing a lot more to protect their customers, who they seem to now want to be all-in-one banking clients with them.
