RALEIGH – North Carolina State University leadership has been awaiting the next step in a months-long process to determine how the institution could proceed with plans for Centennial Campus, which the university is seeking the OK to redevelop. They got it, as a rezoning request was approved by the Raleigh City Council on Tuesday night.
Now what?
That process, formally begun after the university submitted a rezoning request to the City of Raleigh in November 2020, will now allow redevelopment of 975 acres of Centennial Campus.
And the timing could be fortuitous: Google, Apple, Invitae, and others recently announced plans to establish new Triangle-based offices with thousands of employees expected to be hired in the coming years. According to WRAL TechWire sources, more companies could be on their way to expand in the region or to relocate to the region. RALEIGH – I write [May 10] with the sad news that former NC State Chancellor Marye Anne Fox passed away Sunday night at her home in Austin, Texas, after a long illness.
Marye Anne Fox was appointed NC State’s 12th chancellor on Aug. 1, 1998. As well as being NC State’s first female executive leader, she also provided tremendous guidance and vision as our land-grant university charged into the 21st century, propelled by her commitment to raising NC State’s stature in teaching, scholarship, research and extension. She played a prominent role in lobbying the North Carolina legislature for the historic $3.1 billion University and Community College Bond Referendum and in the decision to expand the Atlantic Coast Conference, of which NC State is a charter member.
A power failure forced a Monday morning delays and closures for classes at several school campuses after the incident cut off electricity to 3,000 Colorado Springs Utilities customers.
Pikes Peak Community College s Centennial Campus, located near South Academy Boulevard, planned to open at noon while Stratmoor Hills Elementary School and Oak Creek Elementary School canceled classes.
Most customers regained electricity within the first hour of the outage, which started around 6 a.m. But nearly 200 people remained without power as of 7:30 a.m., said Katlin Nolt, a spokeswoman for Colorado Springs Utilities.
Nolt said buildings without power were expected to regain electricity between 8 and 9 a.m.
