Nebraska lawmakers may lend support for returning Standing Bear s tomahawk

Paul Hammel Omaha World-Herald Shortly after a federal judge issued his landmark ruling in 1879 that Standing Bear and all Native Americans should be considered “persons” under the law, the Ponca chief gave one of his few possessions to one of the lawyers who had represented him. The gift of a long-handled, ceremonial pipe tomahawk was a demonstration that attorney John Lee Webster was a brother to Standing Bear and the Poncas, who had recently been forced off their homeland in Nebraska. The Poncas’ 460-mile walk to a bleak reservation in Oklahoma, under guard by U.S. troops, has been immortalized as the tribe’s Trail of Tears. Standing Bear was arrested after he returned to Nebraska to fulfill a promise to bury his eldest son, who had died in Oklahoma, in the Poncas’ beloved Niobrara River Valley.

Proof of viability key to making Yampa Valley Adventure Center a reality

For the Craig Press Frank Moe will make a presentation to a new Urban Renewal Authority on the third week in May that could determine the future of his Colorado Great Outdoors Experience and Hall of Fame. The project still carries the name Yampa Valley Adventure Center, but Moe renamed the nonprofit portion of the project to focus his efforts on getting that part constructed or at least well underway. The nonprofit would honor those responsible for bringing the outdoors to life as well as help patrons appreciate what Moffat, Routt and Rio Blanco counties have to offer. Moffat County Public Health to host Johnson & Johnson vaccine clinic, mobile vaccine bus in May

Following a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccination due to a number of reports of blood clots in patients who recently received the vaccine, Moffat County and Colorado as a whole is rolling out the vaccine once again. In mid-April, Moffat County Public Health and Walgreens paused their use of the vaccination for the time being “out of an abundance of caution,” Moffat County Public Health Director Kari Ladrow stated April 13. Now, Colorado can resume using the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine now that federal regulators have lifted an 11-day pause on the shot, state public health leaders said.
