DILIP Kumar, who passed away on Wednesday in Mumbai at the age of 98, was the yardstick by which the performances of all other actors in the Sub-continent were judged – no wonder, then, that a great many of them in Urdu/Hindi cinema were influenced by the thespian. He had quite a few clones, some of whom later evolved their own individual styles. Those who didn’t were written off by cinegoers and film historians alike.

ISLAMABAD (Online): Before the partition in 1947, Noor Jehan was the singing sensation who featured prominently in Indian films. She had worked with Dilip Kumar in Jugnu , which was one of Dilip saab s earlier films.
Noor Jehan’s daughter while talking to an Indian media channel said that “Dilip Kumar and my mother Noor Jehan were friends. They met when they both were teenagers and were working in the film ‘Jugnu’ (1947). I think it was Dilip saab s second film, my mother, by that time, was quite well known and was expecting her second child. Tab se unki pyaar aur dosti thi (they had been friends since then and had a lot of love for each other); there was this mutual respect and love.”

Bollywood icon Dilip Kumar, hailed as the “Tragedy King” and one of Hindi cinema’s greatest actors, died Wednesday in a Mumbai hospital after a prolonged illness. He was 98.
The “Tragedy King” title came from Kumar’s numerous serious roles. In several, his character died as a frustrated lover and a drunkard. He also was known as Bollywood’s only Method actor for his expressive performances identifying a character’s emotions.
