Ontario reported another 49 deaths even as its daily case count continued an ongoing downward trend, with 1,670 new cases recorded. Quebec, which saw 53 more COVID-19-related deaths, reported 1,328 new cases. The province said on Wednesday it would not challenge a court order exempting the homeless from a provincewide curfew. A Canada Post facility in Mississauga is experiencing a major COVID-19 outbreak among employees, and the Crown corporation is warning of significant delivery delays as a result.  On Friday afternoon, Canada Post sent home 350 employees and contractors working the same shift at the Gateway East facility in Mississauga and told them to self-isolate for 14 days after at least 190 employees tested positive for COVID-19. On the advice of Peel Public Health, Canada Post has temporarily closed one of the shifts at our Gateway East processing facility in Mississauga, Ont. after a number of employees tested positive for COVID-19, reads an online Canada Post mail delivery interruption announcement.

Since January 1, 149 workers at the Dixie Road site have tested positive for the virus. Spokesperson Phil Legault confirmed that the latest cases were detected among workers who were asymptomatic or didn’t believe they had symptoms. On Wednesday, Canada Post confirmed that 121 employees have tested positive for COVID-19. “Public Health has confirmed that Canada Post is able to maintain its operations. Any employees who do test positive will leave the workplace and self-isolate,” the statement said on Wednesday. See also:
