SWINDON Town lost 2-0 to Portsmouth on a bitterly cold night at Fratton Park on Tuesday. After an early goal from Ronan Curtis, Pompey netted their second through an Ellis Harrison penalty shortly after the hour mark as Town lost for the 18th time in 28 League One matches. Pompey were in control throughout on the south coast – highlighted by the fact the hosts had seven shots on target to the visitors 0. John Sheridan’s men now head into a west-country derby with Bristol Rovers off the back of two straight defeats. Town made two changes to the side that lost by a goal against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

Town begin what manager Paul Lambert says is a “huge” month by hosting fellow strugglers Millwall at Portman Road on New Year’s Day.
The Blues go into 2019 bottom of the Championship, seven points plus goal difference from safety with the Lions in 20th, 10 points ahead of them having won their last two matches, both at the Den.
Asked how big a month January is for Town both on an off the field - with half-a-dozen additions being targeted - Lambert said: “Huge. But I keep going back to it, so was August, so was July, so was June.
Lambert: Few Will Expect Us to Get Anything at Boro But Anybody s Beatable on the Day
Friday, 28th Dec 2018 12:11
Town boss Paul Lambert knows few people will expect his team to take anything from Saturday s trip to Middlesbrough, but says anybody’s beatable on any given day.
The bottom-of-the-table Blues go into the game seven points behind 21st-placed Rotherham United with a goal difference six worse than the Millers’, while Boro are fifth despite having lost 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday at the Riverside on Boxing Day and having won only one of their last seven in all competitions.
“Another game where a lot of people won’t expect us to get anything, but we’re playing well, I’ve got no worries on that issue,” Lambert said.
Lambert: QPR Will Be Facing a Totally Different Town Team

That game was former boss Paul Hurst’s final home match in charge of the Blues with his departure coming the day after the following Wednesday s 2-0 defeat at Leeds. Lambert was formally appointed manager on the Saturday before taking the reins on the Sunday.
The bottom-of-the-table Blues claimed their first win of the Lambert era at home to Wigan last week and then built on that victory by drawing 1-1 with sixth-placed Sheffield United on Saturday, a result which cut the gap to four points plus goal difference.
