Voyagers is ostensibly an exploration of what happens when you trap 30 bright young things in a tin can on an 86-year mission to colonise a new planet.

The most surprising thing about “ Voyagers,” a sci-fithriller about a group of young adults who have been tasked with travelling to and repopulating a new planet, is that it isn’t based on a Young Adult book series. Writer and director Neil Burger, who was also behind the “Divergent” films apparently decided to cut out the Intellectual Property middleman and make his own YA statement. That said, it does borrow heavily from quite a few other sources, with shades of “Lord of the Flies,” “The Giver,” “Ender’s Game,” “Euphoria” and any number of space madness films.

The Man Who Sold His Skin (NR) Nominated for the Oscar for Best International Film, this Tunisian drama is about a Syrian refugee (Yahya Mahyani) who becomes a living art exhibit in a museum. Also with Dea Liane, Koen de Bouw, Saad Lostan, Christian Vadim, Darina al-Joundi, and Monica Bellucci. (Opens Friday in Dallas)

THE PLOT:
Earth is dying. In 2063 we have found a habitable planet. The voyage to colonize will take 86 years. Breeding 30 member for the voyage, this crew will birth the next generation onboard and their grandchildren will colonize the planet.
This story is about the first generation of voyagers, adolescents who discover that emotions, wants, needs and their humanity are what define them, but also endangers them.
KENT S TAKE:
âVoyagersâ sets up a story of hope, but shows the hurdles that must be overcome to find that hope.
Some think that there is no goodness without the bad, there is no darkness without the dawn. This sci-fi thriller uses this concept as a lever for the story.
