15 Azure announcements from Microsoft Build 2021

The three-day Microsoft Build 2021 developers conference started virtually today with the No. 2 cloud provider introducing a slew of updates to its Azure cloud computing capabilities. Azure announcements ranged from artificial intelligence (AI) features, to app services running on Kubernetes clusters with Azure Arc, to Azure Cosmos DB enhancements. The technology company also provided a look at the new PyTorch Enterprise on Microsoft Azure, new Azure Marketplace offers and the Microsoft Build of OpenJDK. AGL makes short work of machine learning at scale

Head of advanced analytics Sarah Dods told IQPC’s Data Analytics online event series that the company used a ‘barn raising’ technique to stand up all the pieces needed for a production-use machine learning model. “To actually do the technical work of bringing the model across [to pre-prod and then production], we’ve gone right back to the Amish and gone with ‘barn raising’ principles,” Dods said.

SAP partner Acclimation wins cloud migration contract with Powerlink

SAP partner Acclimation won a cloud migration contract for Queensland electricity transmission network provider Powerlink It will manage the migration of the company’s systems from on-premise SAP ECC6 on Oracle to Business Suite on HANA hosted in Microsoft Azure. Powerlink said that it is undertaking the migration in response to the changes in the national electricity market with the growth in renewable energy which meant a need to adapt. The upgrade to a cloud-hosted solution is the first step in a broader modernisation program and transition to S/4 HANA. Powerlink chief financial officer Darryl Rowell said this migration provided the foundations for a more flexible environment for the future.
