Law firm Bell Gully has been confirmed as the anchor tenant for one of the last major commercial development sites on Wellington s waterfront.
An event was held at Site 9 on Customhouse Quay this afternoon to mark construction getting underway for the $40 million development.
The four-level 3,900 square metre premium office building will be base isolated to withstand a one-in-1000-year earthquake.
Willis Bond s managing director Mark McGuinness said Bell Gully is one of the country s most respected law firms.

A virtual community consultation for the new Waterfront East LRT Extension is set to take place next Wednesday, and a presentation deck for the meeting includes a number of interesting proposals for the transit line including futuristic heated pavement.
The 74-slide presentation features an overview of the Waterfront East LRT Extension Project, a study on potential streetcar portal locations (what allows them to transition between an underground and surface alignment) and more, but the most interesting details of all just may be the street design proposals for the above grade section of Queens Quay East between Parliament and Yonge.

Baches in two of New Zealand s best waterfront locations have sold for big sums in the past seven days.
In Kinloch, on the edge of Lake Taupō, a three-bedroom 1970s home at 10 Kinloch Rd sold for $4.075 million on Friday - more than $1m above the reserve and, astonishingly, more than $2.6m above its 2019 rating valuation.
Bayleys agent Helen Webb, who brought the property to market with her colleague and son Rowan, said the buyer was a Wellington homeowner wanting a bach.
