D-Street Buzz: Pharma stocks gain led by Sun Pharma, Biocon; CLSA picks DRL, downgrades Aurobindo Pharma CLSA has a buy on Sun Pharma, Cadila Healthcare and Dr Reddy’s Labs and has a sell on Biocon and Lupin. The research firm has downgraded Aurobindo Pharma to underperform from outperform. The Indian stock market continues trading in the green with Sensex up 373.22 points or 0.78 percent at 48466.54, and the Nifty added 125 points or 0.88 percent at 14262.40. Among the sectors, the pharma index gained over a percent led by Sun Pharma and Biocon which gained 2 percent each followed by Torrent Pharma, Lupin, Dr Reddy s Labs, Cipla and Divis Labs.

Nifty touches 14,000 mark; pharma shares climb

Key equity indices reversed losses and hit fresh intraday high in morning trade. The Nifty retraced after briefly crossing 14,000 mark. Pharma, auto and banks shares advanced while metal, IT and FMCG shares declined. Trading was volatile as the December 2020 F&O contracts expire today, 31 December 2020. At 10:23 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 55.26 points or 0.12% to 47,801.48. The Nifty 50 index added 11.05 points or 0.08% to 13,993. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index gained 0.34% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.54%. The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 1673 shares rose and 818 shares fell. A total of 143 shares were unchanged.

Nifty above 13,950; Wockhardt spurts 7%

Key indices bounced back and hit fresh intraday high in mid-afternoon trade. At 14:23 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 47.51 points or 0.10% at 47,660.59. The Nifty 50 index advanced 17.75 points or 0.13% at 13,950.35. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.08% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index gained 0.11%. The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 1500 shares rose and 1373 shares fell. A total of 170 shares were unchanged. Buzzing Index: The Nifty Pharma index shed 0.42% to 12,790.15, declining for third day in a row. The index has lost 0.92% in three sessions. Sun Pharma (down 1.13%), Biocon (down 0.98%), Cipla (down 0.88%), Aurobindo Pharma (down 0.39%) and Dr. Reddy s Labs (down 0.19%) declined.

Shares trade in range; pharma shares rise for 3rd day

Domestic equity barometers were trading in a narrow range with modest losses in mid-morning trade. At 11:26 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 94.03 points or 0.20% to 46,796.31. The Nifty 50 index lost 34.60 points or 0.25% to 13,706.10. Shares witnessed profit selling after a five-day rising streak during which the Sensex added 2.02% while the Nifty gained 1.95%. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index slipped 0.36% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index shed 0.38%. The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 940 shares rose and 1733 shares fell. A total of 143 shares were unchanged. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 2,355.25 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs), were net sellers to the tune of Rs 2,494.36 crore in the Indian equity market on 17 December, provisional data showed.
