Although he acknowledged the historic nature of Gordon s appointment, Premier Brian Pallister said it had nothing to do with her race. She has demonstrated her abilities over 20 years of public service in the civil service, coming to Manitoba with really nothing as a young girl, working her way through school, getting an education, Pallister said Tuesday. She s a dynamic person. It s a really positive story of accomplishment and she s an inspirational person.
Gordon said she has worked with many different groups, including newcomers from war-torn countries suffering from trauma, as well as First Nations and Indigenous people. Prior to being elected, she also worked as a director with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority s home care program.

Multiple churches will be challenging the legality of Ontario’s measures aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus, amid police actions halting in-person worship services.
The Calgary, Alberta-based Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms announced Monday that they were taking on multiple challenges to the Reopening Ontario Act, which only allows churches to have an attendance of 10 people indoors and 10 people outdoors.
These include Old Colony Mennonite Church and Word of Life Mennonite community, both of which were charged by police for holding services in violation of the Act.
According to the Centre, at least one of the services involved police giving a brief warning and then entering the building, demanding that they end their worship immediately.
The church will be based on one of the floors of 108 Sunbridge Road A NEW church could soon open in a building in Bradford city centre. The Church of the Pentecost UK has applied for planning permission to change the use of the second floor of 108 Sunbridge Road from a dance studio to a place of worship. The space within the large building, at the junction with Barry Street, has been vacant and on the market since September 2019. The church’s application says most services in the building will be held on weekends, and adds: “Although it is the expectation of the church to welcome visitors and new converts, the current membership of the church is on average 38, including 12 adults, 15 children and 11 teenagers.”
Christmas Eve usually ranks as the second-largest service at New Life Church, drawing some 15,000 people to the massive evangelical Christian campus in northern Colorado Springs.
This year, a remote-only broadcast that’s been recorded and will play online all day Thursday will be available.
“You can’t put that many people in a room safely,” Senior Pastor Brady Boyd said. “We feel it would be too big of a risk.”
Even though capacity limits have been lifted at churches across Colorado following a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling, facial coverings, social distancing and sanitization practices are still required under the state’s COVID-19 policies pertaining to indoor public spaces.
“We really wanted to bless those that have been feeling out of touch and isolated during this crisis,” senior pastor Mike Hensley said. “We want people to know that they are not alone this Christmas. Things may look different now, but we want to give them hope that it will get better.”
A stage will be set up in front of the church for the service, which starts at 5 p.m. Thursday. People will be asked to remain in their vehicles. Since many will not be able to visit with friends and family like usual this year, Hensley says the church wants them “to know that they are special and loved.”
