As part of an ongoing rehabilitation of the bridge carrying Route 156 over the Niantic River, the state Department of Transportation has announced a closure and detour of Route 156 in East Lyme and Waterford from March 7 until March 19.
“The scheduled closure is necessary to facilitate the replacement of various electrical and mechanical components that are required to properly operate the bridge,” DOT said in a news release. “This work cannot be completed while maintaining vehicular traffic over the structure.”
The detour route is an 8-mile loop, according to DOT, which provided the following information:
• From Route 156 East, follow Route 161 North to Route 1 East to Niantic River Road South.
