HPU Broadens List of Global Leaders in Residence with Famed Actor Dean Cain | High Point University

HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 9, 2021 – High Point University announces Dean Cain will serve as Actor in Residence. Cain is an American actor, producer, television presenter and former football player. Cain, who is known for playing the role of Clark Kent/Superman in the TV series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” as well as for many other movie and television roles, joins other global leaders in residence who serve as mentors for HPU students. This includes Netflix Co-Founder Marc Randolph, HPU’s Entrepreneur in Residence; Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak, HPU’s Innovator in Residence; ABC News’ Byron Pitts, HPU’s Journalist in Residence; Dallas Mavericks Chief Executive Officer Cynt Marshall, HPU’s Sports Executive in Residence; former Boston Globe Sports Columnist Bob Ryan, HPU’s Sports Reporter in Residence; and Scott McKain, best-selling author, business consultant and trainer.

October Extraordinary Leader: From Peer to President | High Point University

It did. As a peer mentor, Francesca Mauceri has helped build bikes for local children every year. She saw freshmen laughing and engaged. They were masked up and physically distanced, participating in an online trivia game about all things High Point University. Mauceri created the game. She came up with dozens of questions to create a safe way for new students to connect during the global pandemic. Each year, HPU’s freshmen build bikes together for local children. The teamwork and the act of serving others sets the tone for their educational journey at HPU. But during the pandemic, they couldn’t gather to build bikes as they had done in the past, so HPU officials asked Mauceri for help. Mauceri got busy.

Column: 2021 is going to be a bounce-back year in Richland County

Some call the start of a New Year a new beginning. Blank pages. Fresh canvas. The reality is the turn of a calendar page into 2021 simply marks the man-made passage of time. Nothing is true today that was false on Dec. 31, 2020. We cannot check our problems and challenges at the door of the old year as we enter the new one. If I have learned anything in my near 60 years on this Earth, the continuance of time and its ongoing issues are are incontrovertible facts.   My talented colleague, Katie Ellington, offered a wonderful year-in-review earlier this week, a piece that revealed the huge, caring hearts of this community, allowing us to weather the storm of the past 12 months together.
