Britainâs Queen Elizabeth II has returned to royal duties four days after her husband Prince Philip â the Duke of Edinburgh s death on April 9. The 94-year-old monarch hosted an audience with Earl Peel for his retirement as he formally stepped down as Lord Chamberlain, in charge of organising royal ceremonies. During a private event held at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, the Queen accepted her former royal aide s wand and office insignia. Earl Peel had an audience of The Queen today, delivered up his Wand and Insignia of Office as Lord Chamberlain and the Badge of Chancellor of the Royal Victorian Order and took leave upon relinquishing his appointment as Lord Chamberlain, when Her Majesty invested him with the Royal Victorian Chain, read the details in the Court Circular, a daily list of the official events attended by the Queen and the royal family.

LONDON - Queen Elizabeth II faces the twilight of her record-breaking reign without her most trusted adviser and personal confidant - husband Prince Philip.
But his death last week aged 99 is not expected to change the monarch s lifetime commitment to duty, as a new chapter beckons for Britain s most famous family.

The queen attended a ceremony at Windsor Castle for Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel, who has retired as the royal household’s most senior official. He oversaw arrangements for the funeral of Prince Philip, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, before handing over to his successor days before the duke’s death.
Philip’s funeral will take place Saturday at Windsor Castle, with attendance limited to 30 because of coronavirus restrictions.
Servicemen and -women from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army and Royal Air Force will take part in the funeral procession, and Philip’s coffin will be borne to St. George’s Chapel at the castle on a specially adapted Land Rover, which he designed himself.
