Govt. told to provide scholarship equally and as per population census A 2015 Kerala government order allocating the merit-cum-means scholarship for minority communities to Muslims and Latin Catholic Christians and Converted Christians together in the 80:20 ratio was struck down by the Kerala High Court. A Division Bench of the court consisting of Chief Justice S. Manikumar and Justice Shaji P. Chaly noted that the action of the State government in subclassifying the minorities and providing the scholarship at 80:20 ratio was legally unsustainable. The court also directed the State government to pass requisite and appropriate orders for providing the scholarship to the members of the notified minority communities equally and in accordance with the latest population census available with the State Minority Commission.

Allotting 80 pc minority scholarships to Muslim community cannot be legally sustained: Kerala HC ANI | Updated: May 28, 2021 20:51 IST Kochi (Kerala) [India], May 28 (ANI): The Kerala High Court on Friday held that action of the state government in sub classifying the minorities by providing merit-cum-means scholarship at 80 per cent to the Muslim community and 20 per cent to the Latin Catholic Christians and converted Christians cannot be legally sustained. The division bench comprising Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly ruled that the benefits should be in proportion to the population of the various minorities. The High Court also asked to take the current census into account. The court s ruling came on a plea filed by Advocate Justin Pallivathukkal.
