The Democratic-controlled House impeached Mr. Trump on Jan. 13 on a charge of inciting the violence. Law enforcement has brought criminal charges against more than 170 people in connection with the riot.
After Election Day on Nov. 3, Mr. Trump spawned the Stop the Steal movement with repeated claims that the election was stolen and that he had won in a landslide.
His constant refrain is that he was ahead that night and then lost battleground states in the ensuing hours and days as ballot counting continued.
“That election, our election was over at 10 o’clock in the evening,” Mr. Trump told the protesters. “We’re leading Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, by hundreds of thousands of votes. And then late in the evening, or early in the morning, boom, these explosions of bulls -.”

Eric Smith, Ex-Macomb County Prosecutor
MACOMB COUNTY Eric Smith now has a felony conviction on his record.
A plea hearing was held Jan. 27 before U.S. District Judge Linda Parker. The proceeding was conducted via Zoom, with Smith and his attorneys seated in a conference room.
NEW PHILADELPHIA Most of the cases Judge Linda A. Kate handled during her 24 years of presiding over Tuscarawas County Probate and Juvenile Court were conducted outside of public view.
For this reason, she has been part of a small circle of individuals to know what happens after children and parents falter. Mothers and fathers may lose custody, permanently, of children they neglect. Children and teens may come to court after being charged with shoplifting, drug possession and burglary.
Kate s term in office will end Feb. 8, a day after her 62nd birthday. She will be replaced by her magistrate, Adam Wilgus, who was elected in 2020. He and others have wished her well in retirement.
Lawyers who argued unproven election-fraud claims for President Trump face ethical complaints, lawsuits and professional reproach that could take years to resolve.
