A disgraced doctor who secretly recorded strangers, work colleagues and even family friends using the toilet was handed a nine month jail sentence yesterday.
Jailing Mark McClure at Craigavon Crown Court, Judge Patrick Lynch QC told the 52-year-old that as a highly respected and highly regarded senior consultant, he then abused that respect and trust to carry out his seedy offences in the toilets at Craigavon Area Hospital (CAH). Perhaps even more repellent is that he carried the same activity at his own home, recording and retaining material for his own sexual gratification, said the judge - who expressed surprise that the maximum sentence for voyeurism was a two year jail term.
Joanne Hayes and her family are seeking a court order that would see the entire report of the notorious Kerry Babies Tribunal censured.
Last week Ms Hayes - the woman wrongly accused of murdering the infant whose remains were found at White Strand near Cahersiveen on April 14, 1984, sparking the Kerry Babies saga - sought a High Court order declaring the findings of the subsequent tribunal were unfounded and incorrect.
In January 2018 Gardaí issued an unreserved apology to Ms Hayes and her family for the treatment they received at the hands of gardaí during the 1984 investigation.
Then Taoiseach Leo Varadkar subsequently issued a formal apology to Ms Hayes and her family on behalf of the State, which is currently negotiating a compensation deal with the family.
Murder accused appears in crown court after fatal stabbing A MAN charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a beloved father in Greenstead has appeared before a judge. Sheldon McKay, 25, of no fixed address, was charged with murder following an incident in Affleck Road, Greenstead, Colchester. He appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court via videolink from Chelmsford prison this morning, speaking only to confirm his name and that he understood proceedings. Judge Patricia Lynch QC scheduled a plea and trial preparation hearing for March 10, when McKay will be expected to enter a plea to the charge. A trial date has been provisionally set for August 9.
