A Picton man has been jailed after admitting drink-driving for the 16th time.
A man has been sent to jail after racking up his 15th and 16th drink-driving convictions. Picton man Mark Carroll, 50, was pulled over by police on Buller St in Picton on Christmas Day 2020. A breath test recorded 801 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol per litre of breath, more than three times the legal limit of 250mcg. On March 13 this year, he was again stopped by police, this time on State Highway 1 in Blenheim, recording 1001mcg. A tomahawk was also found in his car.
Police did not press charges until this year, having spent some months analysing the logbooks, but the offending ended in June 2020, Arnott said. After lockdown, Webb’s company was reduced to delivering half loads of groceries, with his second truck off the road. “The financial problems from being off the road, and his significant business debts, increased – he had to increase his business overdraft by $21,000, so it is now sitting at more than $80,000,” Arnott said. “The Covid wage subsidy was not enough to cover his expenses, as it was just for wages, not debts.” If Webb was sentenced to more than a month s disqualification, the business would not survive, Arnott said, as the family relied on Webb as the sole income earner to pay the mortgage.

A recently unsealed federal indictment alleges Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill, on multiple occasions, had county inmates placed in restraint chairs for several hours in violation of their constitutional rights. He turned himself in today.
The incidents described in the indictment all took place in 2020 and each inmate claims being strapped in the chair for hours caused physical pain and resulted in bodily injury.
The Clayton County Sheriff s Office has an Inmate Restraint Chair policy, according to court records, that was approved by Hill. It reads: a restrain chair may be used by Security staff to provide safe containment of an inmate exhibiting violent or uncontrollable behavior and to prevent self-injury, injury to others or property when other control techniques are not effective.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - In March 2015, a child woke up to find a man lying beside her in her bed in a cabin at the Christian camp, Sky Ranch. The sheriffâs office says the man ran into the woods. He was never apprehended.
Now the sheriffâs office says that DNA testing has linked that assault to a man who, at the time, lived near the Christian camp, less than a mile from the girlâs cabin, in Smith County.
