Yesterday was the first day of winter, and just a few days remain in the year. Much has been said about 2020, and understandably the theme overall has ranged from disappointment to sorrow. It s been a year for reflection and reevaluating priorities. As a Court, we strived to stay positive and focused on our mission, despite the adversity. What follows is a look back at the year, including steps taken during the pandemic to maintain operations, and lessons learned along the way.
Procedures were altered for settlement approval hearings, going from in-person to telephone. In the 38 weeks since then, the judges approved 4,893 settlements paying $89,040,223 in benefits. In the process, we learned that we could be flexible when the circumstances warranted it.

I strongly urge Congress to pass a much-needed bipartisan COVID-19 relief package before leaving Washington for the holiday recess. Schlumberger Can t Trim Rig Workers $100M Sex Bias Case
Law360 (December 11, 2020, 9:49 PM EST) A Texas federal judge has rejected Schlumberger s bid to pare down a $100 million proposed class action from two female rig workers who said they endured sexual harassment and discrimination, saying the women had leveled plausible claims that deserved to stay in court.
U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt on Thursday denied a motion to dismiss some claims brought in a lawsuit by Sara Saidman and Jessica Cheatham alleging that they were threatened and disparaged by male co-workers and Schlumberger retaliated against them for speaking up about it.
