Legendary lensman David Goldblattâs last book takes ex-offenders to the scene of their crimes

One of the countryâs top jurists, Justice Edwin Cameron, said a decision by legendary lensman David Goldblatt to relocate his photographic collection from the University of Cape Town (UCT) to Yale University in the United States, in protest at their silence after artworks were desecrated during the fees must fall protests, has potentially ended up saving his work from ruin.
Cameron said there was a sense of âanguished reliefâ at this decision, as the recent fires in the Western Cape destroyed parts of Table Mountain; and archives and buildings at the UCT.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Judicial Services Commission issued a series of instructions on Friday (30) to all High Court Judges, Judicial Officers, and Presidents of Labour Tribunals, taking into account the present COVID-19 pandemic situation in the island.
The instructions will be in effect from 03rd May 2021 to 07th May 2021, said a statement.
The instructions are as follows:
01. Calling cases should not be taken up in open courts and the re-scheduled dates of those cases are to be notified by publication of a notice at the entrance to the respective courts.
02. All other hearings to be restricted to a limited number of Trial/Inquiry matters and urgent/essential matters only

DURBAN - EMBATTLED Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe has accused the judiciary of being soaked in politics, battling to deal with transformation, and allowing apartheid-era judges to dominate the narrative.
In a scathing criticism of the judiciary, Judge Hlophe described the countryâs law as a âwhite manâs lawâ imposed by colonialists and an infusion of English heritage and the Roman-Dutch law, which rendered it incapable of delivering justice for the common man.
Judge Hlophe made the damning assessment of South Africaâs judicial system in a lecture he delivered on invitation by the University of South Africaâs Department of Public, Constitutional and International Law on Monday.
