Shahbaz release halted as bail order not signed by one of two judges Top Story April 17, 2021 LAHORE: Release of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly has been halted as written judgment in his bail matter in alleged money laundering reference yet has not been released by the Lahore High Court (LHC). A two-judge bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) comprising Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Asjad Javed Ghural on April 13 had granted bail to opposition leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who was arrested in a money laundering case. However, the release order of Shahbaz Sharif could not be issued on Friday as the written decision of bail has not been issued yet, due to which the release on bail of Shahbaz Sharif has been postponed. According to the law, the release of the PML-N president is not possible till a written bail is issued after the signatures of the two judges in the two-member bench.

PU told to get employees booked over stolen degrees record - Newspaper

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan has directed the Punjab University (PU) to get criminal cases registered against its employees involved in stealing the record of degrees. The chief justice passed this order in a petition filed by Ms Gulzar Butt, a senior member of the bar, seeking verification of academic degrees of lawyers, especially those contesting elections. A counsel for the university submitted a report about the verification of LLB degrees of the lawyers contesting elections of different bar associations. The report showed that record of some degrees was found missing and the officials concerned were being taken to task.

White Star/File LAHORE: Despite tall claims of the government to protect green areas, grave concerns expressed by the civil society over consumption of the agriculture land for commercial purposes and court orders against it, hundreds of illegal housing schemes/projects already developed or being established currently on green areas, including about 230 such schemes in Lahore and its adjoining districts, are likely to be legalised/approved under a recent ordinance promulgated in the province. The move, it is alleged, is set to benefit the powerful land mafia, which succeeded in purchasing huge chunks of land in the green areas around Lahore and other divisions. The land mafia has developed or is in the process of developing housing schemes in violation of the land use rules and the cities’ master plans.
