Photo: Collected Star Digital Report Star Digital Report The High Court has set February 22 for hearing the rule that questioned legality of the parliamentary membership of Mohammad Shahid Islam alias Kazi Papul for providing false information to the Election Commission through his affidavit. The bench of Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and Justice Mohammad Ullah yesterday set February 22 for hearing on the matter after the writ petitioner s lawyer Sheikh Awsafur Rahman prayed for early hearing on the rule. The lawyer told The Daily Star that the respondents are yet to place any reply to the rule before the HC.

A High Court division virtual bench of Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order today as lawyer Sheikh Awsafur Rahman placed the matter before the court for hearing. “The court has set February 22 to hold hearing on the rule,” the lawyer said. The High Court on August 20, 2020, issued the rule asking Election Commission (EC), EC Senior Secretary, National Parliament Secretariat Secretary, Laxmipur Deputy Commissioner and Kazi Papul to reply in four weeks as to why it shall not declare illegal Papul’s parliament membership.

HC issues rule on recruiting manpower, establishing training centres under DoE Star Online Report Star Online Report The High Court today issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain in two weeks why they should not be directed to recruit adequate manpower and set up offices and training centres under the Department of Environment (DoE) at upazila levels across the country in order to protect and develop environment. Secretaries to the cabinet division, president s office, prime minister s office and ministries of finance, environment and forest, and public administration have been made respondents to the rule. The HC bench of Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and Justice Mohammad Ullah came up with the rule following a writ petition filed by rights organisation Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) seeking necessary directives on this issue.
