LAHORE: A senior judge of the Supreme Court on Monday chided the deputy commissioner of Lahore for not properly dressing up during his appearance before the court.
A three-judge bench comprising Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Aminuddin Khan was hearing an appeal, at the Lahore Registry, against a notification of the deputy commissioner, banning the sale of petrol to bikers without helmet. Justice Malik admonished the DC for appearing before the court in an informal dress and summoned Punjab Chief Secretary Jawad Rafiq Malik on a short notice. Malik appeared before the court and assured the judges that the executive officers would be asked to strictly observe the dress code during court appearances. ISLAMABAD: The appointment of retired justice Azmat Saeed as the head of the inquiry commission on the Broadsheet scandal has become controversial as the opposition has rejected the selection while the government has defended the move.
The opposition has rejected the appointment on the grounds that Justice Saeed was part of the five-member bench of the Supreme Court which announced the verdict against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case.
On the other hand, federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan have said that the government had no “bad” intention in retired Justice Saeed’s appointment.

As per yet another heart-rending report that s come to the fore, a man convicted of raping a 15-year-old in a village outside the city of Faisalabad was freed on appeal in 2014 after the judge took into account results of a two-finger test. Reason? The uncorroborated statement of (the victim) may not be relied upon as it came from the mouth of a spoilt girl, said the judge.
