Hearing the plea of one Jambeswar Sahoo who worked for 20 years-long as an ad hoc employee, the Bench of
Justice Biswanath Rath observed,
The matter of taking out service from the petitioner for long 20 years on a temporary basis in the presence of a clear vacancy in the post of Peon amounts to exploitation of employee.

Health workers engaged in COVID-19 care not to be retrenched, says Orissa High Court Post News Network
Cuttack: In an interim order issued Wednesday by the Orissa High Court pertaining to appointment of health workers who have been subsequently engaged by the Odisha government’s Health Department in COVID-19 care activities, it has been said that the beneficiaries cannot be retrenched from their respective positions until further orders.

Hearing a petition in this regard, a single-bench of Justice Biswanath Rath also sought a reply from the Odisha government as to why the health workers are being retrenched when there are a large number of vacancies in the Health Department. The court has ordered the government to submit its reply by January 25. The next date for hearing has been scheduled for January 28.

CUTTACK: The issue of school fee waiver, being adjudicated by the Orissa High Court, took a new turn on Thursday with the Association of Odisha ICSE Schools raising objection to the report submitted by the Principal Secretary of School and Mass Education department.
The report stated that following mediation with different stakeholders, an MoU was signed on different slabs of fees reduction for separate categories of unaided private schools. In an affidavit, association secretary Father S Joseph opposed the report on the ground that English medium schools like the 50 DAV and around 100 ICSE schools functioning in the State were not among the stakeholders who signed the M0U.
